Who are we?

We are two student researchers from the American Museum of Natural History in New York, NY participating in the Science Research Mentoring Program (SRMP). We are working on a molecular project to understand the diversification and range of the millipede Boraria stricta. Until recently, this species has never been seen north of Virginia, and we are using genetic sequencing to catalog intraspecific diversity and identify potential modes of dispersal. So far, we have only sampled parts of New York and Connecticut, and are looking to expand our sampling sites to include areas between New York and Virginia. The goal of this website is to engage the community in collecting new samples from these unexplored areas.
